Della Duck | Melissa
Themes: Family, reunification, space
Memory One You open the door of a red aeroplane and jump down onto the sand below. Four younger ducks jump down after you and you catch them, making sure they all land safely before marching forward to take in the desert island you have crash landed on.
"We made it!" You announce, turning to the children. "We're safe!"
"And stuck." One of the kids says looking around. "You'd have to be pretty unlucky to get stuck here."
A rustling from the jungle behind you causes you to turn with a gasp. A strange figure, carrying a carved watermelon of all things, exits the bush and you instinctively spread your arms, making sure the kids are behind you, protecting them.
The figure comes closer, into the light and...
You all gasp. "Donald?" You ask.
"Della?" He quacks before holding up the watermellon, 'talking' for it. "Hotdog! We've got company!"
You stare at him across the beach, he stares back and you step towards each other, staring at wonder. Before you both jump back, snarling at each other, waving your arms in frustration.
"Where have you been?" You demand, "If you'd have been home when I got home you'd know I was stuck on the moon! Which by the way is invading us!"
"I know! Donald quacks, "I warned you."
That's news to you, "We didn't get any warning!" You argue as one of the kids, in a blue jumper, approaches and puts his arms out between you.
"Stop yelling at each other!"
Memory Two "Where are my?" You look through the door and stop, staring at the four ducklings there, three boys and a girl. You are filled with emotion.
The boy in blue speaks first, "Who's the cyborg?"
"Is that?" The boy in red, followed by the one in grean.
"It can't be."
"Guys..." The girl speaks, "I think that's your mom." You walk in fully, dropping to your knees.
The duck in a top hat who has followed you in speaks. "Huey, Dewy, Louie... Meet Della Duck."
The kids are all staring at you in wary wonder but once again the boy in blue speaks first, jumping out from his brothers.
"Oh! I'm part robot! I knew it!" He runs to you, knocking you over with the force of his hug. You hug him back tightly before setting him back slightly and cupping his face, taking in your child's face for the first time.
Something occurs to you. "Wait? Huey, Dewey and Louie? No no no... Their names were meant to be Turbo, Jet and Rebel."
"I could have been Turbo?"
"I told Donald, I wrote it down in case no one understood him."
"I could have been Turbo?!"
"Hi" The duckling in red steps forward, a little nervously. ""Huey slash Jet here." His nerves seem to disappear as he babbles out questions. "How did you survive a barren wasteland? Have you adjusted to our gravity? Did you make any customised modifications to your leg?" He holds up fingers as he asks questions.
You hold up your own in return as you answer. "Shear determination to get back to you, kinda and no because as Junior Woodchuck rule 42 states..."
Huey looks surprised and speaks with you, "Build things right the first time and they won't need modification!"
He slaps his hands to his face. "You really are my mum!" He rushes forward to join the hug.
Turbo gestures to your final son. "Get in here Rebel."
He is still stood behind the girl. "Nope, I'm not buying. This has to be a trick or a curse from Magica or a parallel universe or... or..."
You just smile at him softly, still holding your other two sons. His eyes are filled with tears and you stand, walking towards him. You kneel next to him and hold out your arms.
"Mom?" He flings himself into your arms. The other two run back towards you and the four of you share a group hug.
Memory Three A red space space rocket hurtles towards the moon, landing in a mess of debris.
Some time later there is a duck. She's in a space suit, but her helmet has cracks in it. "Oh no..." She shakes her head. "Oh no no no!" She glances to the side where she can see earth in the sky. She coughs, clearly struggling to breathe.
She panics, clutching the helmet and looking around. But then she sees something. "Yes! Oxychew!"
She's trapped, one of her legs is trapped underneath a heavy piece of machinery but she stretches out her arm and struggles until she has the box. She quickly takes off her helmet and bites into the gum. A shudder passes down her entire body but it works, she can breathe. She looks at the packet with disgust. "Urgh! Black liquorice."
She begins struggling with the machine, trying to shift it off her leg. To no avail. She kicks it with her free leg, all it does is loosen more debris sending a cloud of dust and a picture floating towards her.
She looks at the picture, her and two other ducks, sadly for a moment and then returns to fighting with the machine. It slowly dawns on her though, that her leg is un-savable.
