Character Shenanigans!

Sometimes things happen that may have consequences further down the line. Sometimes characters decide to do things that might have immidiate reprecussion. As mods we want to have our fingers on the pulse of the game as it were, but we are also aware that we won't be able to read every single thing!

So that's where this post comes in. If your character has done something 'noticable' that you think we might need to know about, throw us a link here. Some might require a response, some will just be noted.

Example: "Over *here* my character is trying to smash the windows of the engine!"

Sometimes you might have an idea in mind that you believe will have consequences and be in the midst of writing the thread, however you want to know what those consequences will be for threads going forward. Or you might still be in the planning stages and would like to know how things might pan out. That's also what this post is for!

Example: "At the end of this event my character is planning to not rejoin the train and instead ride off into the sunset! What happens?"

In response to this post SXT is gonna submit an inquiry through the train systems, which proceeds roughly as follows:

1) hello hello [METAPHORICAL MIC TAPPING] is there a receiving terminal that will register my request?

2) Assuming a response to 1, the request: "Is it possible to include an extra item available as part of each passenger's ration? (ie. the bagpack supplies and/or the things furnishing each cabin that's one-per-passenger like pillows and blankets) The passengers believe this will increase welfare."

If there's a positive response to 2. I want to mention that she has no idea what a "mascot" is and one way to sink this attempt is to end up generating mildly cursed products instead, but I doubt she'd get this far. it was worth a shot anyway :P

Basically she will get rerouted to here and her request will get filtered as a suggestion and she will get a response much like those on that post (but in code)

This could lead to terrible mascot shenanigans in the future. Who knows?

So in this thread, are there any worlds/landscapes people who have not been on the train would recognize?

This applies to most new Voidtreckers, not just Nita; would canonical off-Earth travelers (or those not from an Earth to begin with) recognize any of the photo locations, or find them similar to places they have been?

Secondly, Nita is also likely to (read: shortly going to) run a diagnostic scan on the stereoscope and the photos themselves, to discern (well, attempt to) what materials they are made of and, if possible, what mechanism was used to take them. And, on a hunch, will also be running it to detect if the photos were altered in any way.

1) No. People who have not been on the train long will not recognise the worlds/landscapes specifically (a lot of them are very generic pretty mountain, pretty field of flowers which are sort of impossible to place anyways). They will not look like anywhere Nita or any other off-Earth traveller has been before.

2) This is a magical diagnostic scan yes? She willfind the stereoscope is made of a purple material that though not exactly plastic has similar properties (is pretty durable). The photos are made of film though she will be able to tell they were taken in a more digital manner and then printed onto the film for the purpose of the stereoscope. They have been altered but it seems only in ways to make them more photo worthy (filters and such to make the light just right and to polish up the quality of the image)

Nita's going to try and follow the people leaving this time, given she was too out-of-sorts when she arrived to do much of anything when she arrived and wants to make more of an effort.

(She's not actually trying to leave herself, just to be clear - only see how far she can follow them.)

What should she be able to note? Does she make it up to the gate, is there a noise signifying her ticket is rejected, does her SCA beep at her? That sort of thing.

She will make it to the gate, she can even show her ticket if she wishes but it won't open. There is no noise, but the gates don't open. If she tries to physically get through the gates her SCA will beep. She won't be able to hold the people back at all, they will just keep walking.

At first it is a bit like sticking his eye into a pool of multicoloured jelly. Many colours smushed together too close to even discern.

If he tries to focus the telescope he will be able to sharpen the image a little. Whereas with the naked eye the void looks like a whole bunch of colours shifting and swirling, the telescope shows those colours are indeed made of colours, which are in turn made of colours and again made of colours.

It's a bit like being in a kaleidoscope with added neon strobe lighting and without moments Danny's head will feel like it may explode from pressure. A headache of the severity of a very bad migraine, enough that his muscles will hurt and he will feel naseaus if he pushes through the initial pain to keep looking.

Even when he looks away it will seem like there are colours in his eyes, dancing before his vision for a good few minutes.

So, being a gem, Spinel has her musical expression ability that allows her to resonate with other gems on an emotional level. Spinel is going to take notice of the void singing, so sooner rather than later, she is going to learn the song and try singing it herself. Will this have any effect?

Regardless of the outcome, she’ll end up doing this because new song.

The first time she sings it she will not feel too much difference. It feels good to sing it and whatever feelings she usually gets from resonating are almost sharpened.

If she continues singing it regularly she will start finding the more extremes of her emotions are heightened, the effect starts to last past when the song is over and if she chooses to sleep and dream her dreams will be a little more vivid.

Will she continue singing in the long run?

It’s going to make her feel good, so that will encourage her to definitely continue singing with the void. Later on, the prolonged emotional effect will be concerning, but Spinel may simply think it’s her backsliding in her progress.

There is a chance someone may intervene and convince her it’s maybe not a good idea to sing with the literal void, but most likely yes, she will do this long term.

So Webmind's going to go about coding in a textchat program on the ICPs. Since his case is similar to SXT-2's in the sense that he can naturally interface with digital networks (per-canon, he can see the web as 'points and lines'; the ICP network, while much smaller than the world wide web, shouldn't be too different in this respect - though if I am wrong, please let me know!), would he be able to find any software space to hook such a program in?

... More to the point, would the train itself automatically know if such a thing pops up, if the Network allows for it in the first place? Or:

0. What does the ICP Network 'look' like, at least in terms of Webmind's web-sight?
1. Is there enough physical/memory space on the ICP Network for a textchat program to be started?
2. If Webmind cooks something up, would it last the day, or be purged/removed once the nightly reset hits?
3. If the answer to 1 is yes, would anyone else be able to use the chat program?

(A fun hypothetical-endgame would be a textchat program whose first users are Webmind, SXT-2, Spot, Bobo, and the train itself, but I know this to be a longshot and thus am not expecting it. |D)

He will find the ICP very strange as he is used to the internet and the ICPs are very much not. For all intents and purposes it is more like a fancy tannoy system with some simple text capabilities. In an imperfect comparison it is like instead of a novel he has a picture book to play with. There seems to be potential for more, but like SXT-2 he won't be able to go deeper than what can be seen.

There would be space but at least to start with anyone who can't also interface with digital networks will be able to post on it (though they will be able to see it). It wouldn't be reset or purged.

With roleplay and time there might be openings for more here.

Would this also apply to characters with laptops and such as well (not to mention droids like BD-1, whose case is similar to Spot's), or would secondhand measures not be able to tap into it?
