Character Shenanigans!

Sometimes things happen that may have consequences further down the line. Sometimes characters decide to do things that might have immidiate reprecussion. As mods we want to have our fingers on the pulse of the game as it were, but we are also aware that we won't be able to read every single thing!

So that's where this post comes in. If your character has done something 'noticable' that you think we might need to know about, throw us a link here. Some might require a response, some will just be noted.

Example: "Over *here* my character is trying to smash the windows of the engine!"

Sometimes you might have an idea in mind that you believe will have consequences and be in the midst of writing the thread, however you want to know what those consequences will be for threads going forward. Or you might still be in the planning stages and would like to know how things might pan out. That's also what this post is for!

Example: "At the end of this event my character is planning to not rejoin the train and instead ride off into the sunset! What happens?"

I just want to get clarification before I use the vending service. In the case of very unique, one-of-a-kind objects (to his timeline/universe!) that Elidibus had on him before being picked up, can these be retrieved via the shop vending machines?

- In specific, the Convocation Stones he was given shortly after his defeat. His 'one item' was his own but he would be deeply vested in retrieving the others if they can be recovered.

- If they can be bought at the shop, would they be the specific ones he had?

If they are very specific and he doesn't know where they are in his world he would only be able to buy the ones he owns (or if he knows specifically where some are- like one belongs to his friend etc)

I've got an SCA related question.

Elidibus arrived on platform in a host body and that is what the SCA is nominally present on.

But what would happen if he were to leave his host body and exist in his incoporeal, aetherial state? Would the SCA be able to be put on his wrist? Or would he be without its presence/support for the duration?

(He does not need the SCA to exist outside of a host body or any special support otherwise, so I don't know if the survival systems/adaptions would apply here.)

The SCA would automatically transfer so it would be on his aetherial state- the same way as shape shifting characters will find it automatically transfers and fits all their shapes!

Right so come platform and being more energetic than he has been since mission end, Jingyi's planning to follow up with what he told the train (and had planned with Inigo), turning at least one of the rocks in the garden into a memorial stone. I 100% don't know what other than the lotuses are in the carriage, but he'll be using his ... he'll be getting creative to carve since he has no proper tools, only brute power in the form of qi to use. Including maybe using his sword to do this, which makes me lower my face in hands.

Left to his own devices, what he's carving on there is:

He doesn't know how to properly translate that into the train's language, though he knows there's some translations going on with how all the interface on the ICP for writing to the train goes. If he can find the system number for Diagad, also the mission they just had, also anything else that indicates a lost system, he'd add it underneath, along with "Voidtrecker's First Crew" as you do

If he plans out what he is writing before he carves it then he will get a translation on his SCA (if he's wearing it...) that will be in strange letters. Once he has carved them they will translate as normal but are, like he asked, in the language of the train.

Senku and Tidus are trying to open the vending machine that dispenses snacks/alcohol/merchandise to see what's inside.

So. What's inside?

Once they get the cover up they are looking a wires that come together and go through a port down into the floor. There is a chute that connects to the space where the goods come out of and above that there are slots for some of the more common things- sweets, chocolate and drinks. Each has one or two of the product ready to drop but it clearly replenishes from further back. There are slots of the other - less common or wider choiced things such as alcohol and magazines but there are no 'ready' products there.

There's a couple of metal grabbers/arms that are clearly used for dispensing goods. Mostly it looks like what you might expect a fancy vending machine to look like.

Rapunzel and Curufin are talking about getting some artists together (or just passengers who want to contribute) and creating a mural that would be a memorial to former passengers and possibly to past Voidtrecker experiences. Curufin could buy canvas, paints, and wood for framing from the train store.

This thing would be quite large, and it would need to hang on a wall somewhere. I'm not sure whether there is any space on the train that might be a possible location. Do you have any ideas? The descriptions of the carriages often say that the walls are already occupied.

They could do the painting in one place and hang it in another.

Being a train most of the walls have windows- if they want a larger flatter surface then maybe somewhere like one of the gyms? Or the inner walls of some of the carriages that are described as having a corridor down one side- as they have a wall between the corridor and the room itself.

Or it could hang in one of those corridors- covering the windows which might not be a bad thing considering!

This is just a note since in case I'm lagging behind getting all his Daily Train Feedbacks in but:

Jingyi's going to be offering all on-train days for the next OOC month to have all his points "taken" so people get a candy on their pillows next. Platform.

... so basically if there's a way to use whatever points he has to earn everyone a piece of pillow candy one of these platforms, let me know, because in all his many recommendations to the train ("recommendations") I as a player absolutely am for his points going to something that ridiculous.

Thread for Elidibus Creation Magic Mod Approval Stuff!

The first thing up for the docket!

Requester: Kiyoiri

Request: Magic bullets (status ailment type) for the matchlock rifle retrieved from Ayumi.

Material: Some type of casing/cartridge material which can hold a spell. There are materials native to Elidibus's world that can hold a charge of aether (and likely a 'spell') or basically anything that would be able to hold a magic 'charge'. The spell itself would be supplied by the enchanter.

Efforts:

1. Elidibus would aim for a cartridge style that can be replenished with the appropriate spell by someone with casting knowledge. Would the result be a one-use (resulting in more overall ammo in the alloted time and a need to get more materials when they run out) or can a rechargeable cartridge be created (less cartridges, but recharged by spellcasters)?

2. While the request is slated for status ailments, Elidibus would probably try to make them versatile enough to hold any 'basic' spell (Effective spells but nothing monstrous; they wouldn't be able to contain 'high powered' spells and would break if someone tried.) There will be 'status spell' cartridges, 'defense' cartridges or 'offense' cartridges if he succeeds. He would focus on the requested type first. What would be the result?

3. Length of time to develop and create the ammo in question (see notes below)?

4. How much was created?


Notes: There should be no problem with the theory. FFXIV's canon is very well established in having guns and ammunition; both gunpowder based and cartridges that hold aether charges. There is even in-game lore supporting someone else charging cartridges with aether for someone who can't do it for themselves. (Spoilers, can elaborate if needed.). Ammo with a specific spell effects has never been shown but it should be easy for a sorcerer of Elidibus's caliber to build on the existing knowledge and create a solution. As he has had a recent rapport with Kiyoiri, saw her distress and sees this as a way to improve the child's strength, he would put a priority on developing this ammo. This would be a minimum of two weeks however, plus whatever time you might see fit to tack on.

I also had the thought that if this ammo ends up being a rechargeable cartridge, the person placing a spell on the cartridge must have the prerequisite knowledge of enchanting, imbuing or infusing an object with a spell. It won't be just a matter of casting a spell at it.

This would be possible. He could make rechargable ammo but it would have to be recharged by someone who had the prerequisite knowledge of enchanting an object. I am assuming he will be buying the material from his world. If he buys 25 points of material he can make 20 rechargeable bullets. If he buys 45 points of material he can make 50.

I would say 3IC weeks (since its almost 2 to the next platform when materials would come and a week from then if he has been working on the theory/figuring out in those two weeks). Does that sound fair?

With a bit more experimenting he could make them to hold offensive or defensive spells but nothing too high powered.

so as per this conversation, Murderbot will be attempting to make a direct contact with the train through whatever system it finds available; it's already been established that the train is holy shit-nigh-overwhelming in terms of presence, IIRC, but would it still be able to make contact/what format would you like that to take? (Just through ICP/feedback post, handwaved, actual thread on the log, whatever?)

The way I'm envisioning it is mainly trying to do a systems-status request, as well as uploading its data re; the interviews and a request for a stopover at a world related to the treaty book Yondu provided. Handwaving with no response/it sending out this information to the (metaphorical!) void is fine; 'sup to you folks.

Enemy Unseen Post Mission

Besides wanting a place to carry out his perusal of the others' interviews in peace and quiet, another reason Elidibus stays near it is in response to network talk about the possibility of stowaways. Which granted may have also shaped his reason for going there in the first place. So consider him a guard in case something spoopy does end up happening! He will periodically be looking around with his senses.

Hey! I am a little confused here and not quiet sure what you mean here. Where is Elidibus guarding?

Back on Osiga...

I'm not sure how many credits Elidibus would have had or whether they'd apply to 'anything on Osiga' rather than just tourist shops, but given his conversation with Ten-Nank would likely touched on tethers enough and general desire for information since this is a void hub, he would search out non-tourist trap bookstores (digital bookstores? Libraries?) looking for the following:

1. Information on the actual science/technology behind tethering, both the application of it in history and current technology. He would look for a layman's 'How it Works' overview but also a more in-depth technical version as well.

2. Information on what's known about the study of voidspace. Its energy, its 'science', how it's harnessed. Specifically knowledge that isn't readily available in the train's library (that he's been able to discover).

3. Newspaper articles on Void Ministry stuff! Not necessarily the VTE's current news (I can't remember if there was public news about the discussions, but if there are he'll note whether or not they're being kept secret or a public thing). But also articles about past incidents, how the Ministry handles cases, whether or not they get criticized or if it seems surprisingly 'towing the ministry line' in the papers. E.G. very ministry controlled or reasonable freedom of the press.

He will want to purchase what he can or make copies of what's allowed to be copied from the library (like interesting news articles). Elidibus is not above discreetly making copies of books he can't take with him or afford with his creation magic too. u_u But he will make the effort to purchase and seek to limit copies to the library sort of places.

Unless there's actual postings against doing that. Then he won't because he isn't trying to make waves here. XD

Re: Back on Osiga...

Being a festival day most the none tourist shops are closed but he will be able to find a book/electronic book on tethering - it is probably not as in debth as he would like but explains the history of the three part tether and goes into some detail about recent experiments to further the tether for added security, comfort or giving users a greater range in what can be done in the void.

There's quite a few books on void space itself though none are particularly in depth. Most are surface level books or travel journals.

The press seems pretty free, there are several newspapers about the void, he will find a couple of articles that are not pro-ministry (one is on goods-trading and the other about a void crew that got into trouble for breaking some minor rules). There's a few anti-void in general sentiments though they are mostly in the form of letters written in from older Osigan's complaining that the void training school brings disruption and rowdy young people who are not connected to Osiga.

When looking up news reals he will find there isn't much mention of the VTE. There is one article that is more a listing of ministry committees meeting in the next month. If he goes back a month or so he will find a couple of articles about members of a mission crew out of Osiga being questioned for unusual Void Activity including sealing off a world from the void. Most are the bare facts though he will find one article that includes interviews with Pepper and Jin-Roh about what happened (its pretty sparse on detail about the entity and doesn't mention the voidtreckers by name but for someone with the context its a decent explanation of what happened). This one is pretty sympathetic both to the crew and to the tragedy of the entity though it doesn't shy away from the ethical implications of sealing off worlds from the void.

There are also a couple that are less flattering- one in a news production that seems to be void wide and very very pro-ministry that is mostly a rant about void missionaries taking the law into their own hands (this one also doesn't mention the VTE by name but has dark undertones about an 'unregistered voidcraft'). Another from a news production called Osiga Now and Forever is sparse on facts but very harsh on Anan specifically.

In general though press is pretty positive about the void and the ministry though most the Osigan newspapers that aren't specifically for void news mostly focus on Osiga or the galaxy. There are articles about past cases and it's a mixed bag of coverage and opinion.

Snow Day!

To help people with the recent stresses, Elidibus would like to set up a snow day. To this end he's going to- with Emporio's discreet help- manipulate the aether of the rock garden carriage to maintain snow-worthy temperatures while Emporio uses Weather Report to create the actual snow. The 'weather' will be set up as early as possible on the day of (or the evening 'before' to make sure there's enough snow) and confined to the rock garden.

With probably a station for hot drinks in the adjacent games carriage. If this is okay, Elidibus will also be tagging a request to reopen the dressing carriage for winter gear to this feedback with a small explanation of his plans.

The carriage will be returned to its normal state the next day.

Elidibus (with Xehanort's player permission) attempted to place a tracing spell on Xehanort. It would have been tracing his soul opposed to his body. I know this doesn't track past the barrier but does it give the vibe of being dispelled or 'possibly still present but signal jammed'.

(His aim would have not so much been 'can I track this beyond the barrier' as 'if I run into a Xehanort again I will know which is the one I knew' or 'if we ever locate where these souls go, maybe the ping of the trace will indicate they're around')

'No Place Like Home' event!

Tidus, along with his collection of messages will - as his aggravation grows - will start trying to bust up the train!! He'll go for the ICPs in a few locations - the storage room, standard (unless he's stopped there), sports, games - and he'll try using weapons and magic on the doors, the windows.

Also, bowling balls. Because there's bowling balls in the sports gym. AND THEN THERE'S WEIGHTS IN THE TRAINING GYM TO THROW AT SOME DOORS AND WINDOWS.

He'll also be shouting at the storage room 'engine wall' about 'Open the stupid doors already! Let us help!'

Spring Day Garden Question/Request

Is there anything foreseeable between March mission and next platform day planned that would get in the way of doing a 'Spring Garden Day(s)' for the rock garden, ala Snow Day?

I would like to see if it's okay to set up things again (Elidibus taking a more supervisory role because of his condition this time and probably asking Emet-Selch to stand in for him if Rachel's on board with it.) Also have an OOC post up looking for early interest in case mod approval is good! The post is here.

This time I would like to extend it a little as well, for 2-3 days (Platform Day +2 IC days). If the time's too long or this wouldn't parse with upcoming events please let me know!
