Safety Control Apparatus

SCAs: SAFETY CONTROL APPARATUS
THE DEVICE
The Safety Control Apparatus (SCA) is the device that every passenger finds on them when they appear on the platform, usually around their wrist. It's similar to a watch in design, a square screen attached to a band in the colour of the character's team. If you think android or Apple Watch, you have the right idea!
As time goes on, characters are learning more about the SCAs and how they work. This is what has been discovered so far:

SAFETY
Characters don't need to wear the SCA on the train, but they do need to on platforms and on-worlds. This is because - as they can find out on the train, via other characters or resources - the SCAs support their presence in environments, mitigating hazardous elements and making the atmosphere bearable for their biology. The closer a person is to another with an SCA, the better the SCAs function to keep at bay intense temperatures.
When a situation is dangerous (e.g a character refuses to board the train), the green symbol of the train on every SCA screen flashes amber. This is a sign they have to change the situation, move away from the danger and make themselves safe. It will also react to any allergens present in food or drink on the person.
If a character is in imminent danger of death, the train symbol will flash red. A character needs to immediately change things in order to stay alive.

SYMBOLS: ON TRAIN
While on the train, the SCA's screen is black with a green train emblem, the same design as on their uniforms. Under this are symbols, icons with further uses:
Sunburst Icon: Pressing this will turn the SCA into a flashlight, with a bright light shining out of the screen. To turn it off, you tap the screen again.
Hourglass Icon: Pressing this will bring up a countdown timer. Passengers can set a countdown for any length of time, up to five hours. As the countdown is reaching its end, the SCA will beep to alert the wearer.
Musical Note: This takes them to a space where music can be stored. Their SCA's will easily connect to the screens in the music room and can hold up to 100 songs. There are headphones in the music room that will connect with their SCA's also.
SYMBOLS: MISSION TIME
When a mission is announced, usually the morning before they arrive, their SCA's flash with the colour of the void and a holoscreen pops up. On it is the information about their upcoming mission, and also their goals. This information can be found on the initial plotting post (example: here). The information in the blockquote area is what characters know going into a mission.
During a mission, the train emblem will be smaller, and there will be additional icons:

Information Icon: Pressing this will bring up the mission parameters so they can be re-read at any time during the mission.
Map Icon: Pressing this will show a map of the area, it is zoomed in to where they are. The character is shown as a dot on their map (though no other people are shown). They can move around the map and zoom out etc to plan routes.
Speech Bubble: Pressing this will bring up a holographic screen. It has three options:Talk to All: sends a voice message to all voidtreckers
It is voice only, but works as a basic comm system whilst on missions. Voidtreckers who have communication devices from home can, with some effort and know how, link their devices to this system to have a back up communicator. However they will still only be able to use speech functions. The headphones from the music carriage can be used as a headpiece to help with speaking on the comms.
Talk to Team: sends a voice message to all those on the caller's designated team
Talk to Individual: ability to choose a name and speak to one person.
Green Exclamation Mark: Pressing this will bring up information about a new task that needs doing. Sometimes this will be in one specific area on the map; other times, it will be a general additional task based on new information not known from the mission brief.
Anchor: A black anchor symbol. Most of the time this will be greyed out and not usable on missions. When it is used it can help move people to where they belong. It will always be explained fully in any events or missions where the anchore feature is used.
Evacuation: While not a symbol, if a Voidtrecker taps their SCA three times at any time (unless otherwise noted to the characters), they can evacuate from a mission or anywhere off-train. This will teleport them back to the train's luggage compartment. Depending on the location, they may be able to rejoin the mission straight away, or they may need to wait a little while.
If your character evacuates (and it isn't part of a mass evacuation situation), please let us know on the event plot post or the character shenanigan page!
