Library
LIBRARY
This a double carriage. On the bottom floor there is a corridor running along one side, with a door to enter the carriage itself in the middle of the corridor. Up the stairs on either end of the carriage, the space is open, relatively. We will not OOCly be tracking books being checked in and out. If a book is not being returned, please reply to that book's comment to let people know that it isn't available.
Downstairs appears similar to a public library. The walls are painted brightly and lined with shelves, most of which are empty. Labels indicate that fiction books should be stored here. The wall facing the door is alternating windows looking out into the Void, and posters that seem to be large, blown-up book covers for the more popular fiction books in the train.
Four tables with linked chairs are spaced throughout the car, each one painted one of the team colours, and beanbag chairs similar to those found in the Games carriage can also be seen scattered in a pile in one corner.
A little wooden train with shelves built into it winds its way through the tables, its shelves filled with all of the previously-purchased Merry Little Void Train literature and the first book of several of the encountered but unpurchased MLVT series, including several colouring books. There's room on its shelves for far more than it currently contains. Kheli the rabbit is painted leaning out of the engine window, waving.
Along the far wall to the right are two scanning machines, which can do the following: register new books - as a helpful tutorial on the screen will inform you; provide summaries of books if given a specific title; or check books out if presented with a valid ticket. Passengers can have up to eight books checked out at a time; if someone walks out of the carriage carrying a book not checked out by them, the ICP speakers in that carriage will beep obnoxiously for ten seconds.
Upstairs resembles an academic library. The wall next to the stairs is a similar bank of windows as downstairs, although lacking the colourful posters, instead dotted with landscape paintings of previously visited worlds and unknown worlds both. Rows of shelves divide the space into six smaller workspaces, each with a single-person desk with lamp and bookstand and another window above, bracketed by shelves on either side. The bookshelves muffle sound, creating semi-private spaces around each desk.
The shelves are empty, with labels on each shelf indicating that non-fiction books belong up here.
Please comment below with any books your character is registering with the library computers, using the following form, to either the fiction or non-fiction top level and under the correct genre or subsection with the book's title as the subject header:

HISTORICAL/TRAVEL
Ten Moments Of... Lanius Tertus (Photobook)
Description: There is a foreword explaining that they are two voidtravellers who travel various worlds, mostly the non void-active ones and set out to document some of their favourite places.
There are ten photos, each expertly framed and shot. They encapsulate the world in ten images (or at least what the photographers see as the most worthy of memory.) L.T. is a planet covered in strange machines. The travellers traverse cave systems and the surface alike, but no living creatures appear in any of the photos.
Ten Moments of... Spira (Photobook)
Description: 'There is a foreword explaining that they are two voidtravellers who travel various worlds, mostly the non void-active ones and set out to document some of their favourite places.
There are ten photos, each expertly framed and shot. None of them show people up close (though some have people in the background). They encapsulate the world in ten images (or at least what the photographers see as the most worthy of memory.) The locations are all named familiarly, but show a Spira from before the Machina War. Besaid, Bikanel, Mi'ihen and Zanarkand all feature. (Example of Images // one, two, three, four)
Further Details: Spira at this time is a highly advanced technological & magical world, using both regularly as a mean to support vast cities.
History of World #7625000129523 (Gyueran & Bui)
Description: This book talks about the history of the two cities. They developed separately, unknown to each other until they accidentally discovered each other. Since then trade was established between the two cities.
The book states there are other settlements on the world, all just as small and isolated. Bui and Gyueran are notable though due to an incident where a Void Mission group (The Champions of Jhu) messed up during a mission to help them through a period of strange storms. They accidentally exposed knowledge of the void. Luckily it didn't backfire too badly but stories of void warriors have lived on in both cultures.
Photobook of World #7625000129523 (Gyueran & Bui)
Description: Like the others in this series this has ten photos presented without commentary. None have people in them. There are five taken underwater- Nita will recognise the shell pods, the castle, the coral shelf, an air dome and market place.
Five are of the island, a couple of the village, the beach, a picture taken of the ocean from the cliff top and one of the sacred rock pools.
World #435: A new species?
Description: Written by a void traveller exploring this mostly unknown world. The book is a careful exploration of a world of sentient badgers. They live in burrows. Their world is green and food sources are plentiful. There are pictures of a world with a green sky and beautiful forests and hillsides.
The book makes no mention of the world being destroyed.
Flora and Fauna of World #09876790863211
Description: A quite heavy ecology book about the world. It mostly lists plants by species. There are a couple of interesting ones:
~ A rainbow flower that is technically white but refracts light much like a prism.
~ A type of bark that if eaten will regrow skin cells, making it a healing agent for small surface wounds.
~ A tree whose sap is so poisonous even a drop on skin can cause a painful death.
History of System #23
Description: System 23 was made up of 42 planets in three solar systems. Around ten of those planets discovered long distance space travel within a few years of each other and within a century the first intergalactic council was in place.
There are mentions of a few important dates and treaties, of wars and scuffles and of differing technologies.
Many hundreds of years later they began discovering the void, they were visited by representatives of the void ministry who worked with them to develop safe void travel.
Void travel advanced as quickly as space travel had and within two generations they had representatives on the void council, void missionaries and a booming tourist industry.
The final chapter tells the story of the system's destruction and the Arc of Curiosity- in less detail than the book on the Arc did.
10 Moments of... Jema'grethy (Photobook)
Description: There is a foreword explaining that they are two voidtravellers who travel various worlds, mostly the non void-active ones and set out to document some of their favourite places.
There are ten photos, each expertly framed and shot. None of them show people up close (though some have people in the background). They encapsulate the world in ten images (or at least what the photographers see as the most worthy of memory.) They are all very familiar places.
OOC Note: Location for event 'Healing Waters', log here, OOC post here.
World #2554098133741 Photobook (Jema'grethy Island)
Description: This is another photobook. More like a glossy tourist brochure. It has a handful of photos, all expertly shot. It focuses on the hot springs and the ruins, the main tourist attractions.
OOC Note: Location for event 'Healing Waters', log here, OOC post here.
History of Jema'grethy Island
Description: A history of the island. Mostly focusing on its popularity as a tourist destination and has been so for a few hundred years.
It isn't really a serious history book, mostly seems to be to promote the island and encourage people to visit.
OOC Note: Location for event 'Healing Waters', log here, OOC post here.
History of World #2554098133741 (Jema'grethy Island)
Description: A more detailed history. The world was always non-void active though they knew about the void early, due to the popularity of the island. However there are other planets in the system and those on the island eventually were enticed towards the stars. Jema'Grethy was never very technological and the young people jumped at the chance to fly into space and see other planets. The old died and the young did not return in any permanent way. Soon it was only of use as a tourist destination.
There is a section saying about how those who used to live there sometimes entered into life bonds- a deeply spiritual ceremony where they shared in each others lives and 'found a greater depth of partnership'. There are stories of this happening to those visiting the island, often by accident but it is mostly considered an old legend/tale and the author doesn't seem to put much credibility in it.
History of System #392
Description: ~ The people of system #392 are a large humanoid species.
~ They are a deeply psychic people, indeed until they discovered void travel they didn't have a spoken language, they communicate with each other through images. They are not quite a hive mind, but can communicate in groups effortlessly.
~ They now speak a mix of languages- not a problem as translation technology is widespread.
~ They first became aware of the void when they were hit by a spree of attacks from a variety of criminals using the void to hit vulnerable-seeming worlds.
~ They downed enough criminal ships to figure out void technology and the void ministry quickly stepped in to help their transition to void travel.
~ They quickly became a core system of the void network, they found they fared better against voiddust than many other peoples.
~ They developed technology to protect them from the void- the iconic inspector suits, they developed ways of entering void craft from the void without exposing the passengers to dangerous levels of void dust.
~ They formed the Inspection arm of the Void Ministry and have patrolled the void ever since. Being a Void Inspector is considered one of the most prestigious career choices by those in system #392.
~ Very little is known about the world itself, as void travel to the system is very heavily regulated.
The Heirs of the Plant People
Description: A... slightly embellished history of a world where a space craft full of tree-like aliens crash landed. They hid on the world and two generations later the heirs of that crew made themselves known.
It's apparently history, even if it's told in a very story-like way.
Book Not Found (Ghi)
Description: Is actually a history book about a planet called GHI, about an anti educational tyrant who set a void active world back about seven thousand years. It is a fascinating read, though very depressing.
Down and About in... volume 1: Rue (Magazine)
Description: A collection of short biographies and articles assembled in this magazine discuss the themes of growing up in Rue, a small town balanced on the borders of three countries. The magazine is written as though to a reader from the same world, and thus assumes a lot of knowledge a Voidtrecker won't have. Still, the articles are written in an enjoyable range of styles.
Volume 2: Yun Mines
Description: A collection of short biographies and articles assembled in this magazine discuss the themes of growing up in Yun, a small mining town with a fluctuating population. The magazine is written as though to a reader from the same world, and thus assumes a lot of knowledge a Voidtrecker won't have. Still, the articles are written in an enjoyable range of styles.
THE FOUR DIMENSIONS - COMING TOGETHER WHILE STAYING APART
Description: A historic guide to Yuume's home world, from the Dimensional War's trigger, to the eventual construction of the Dimensional Subway and the various steps made afterward which led to peace between the four realms. Final chapters detail notable traits of the four dimensions, including tourist destinations and sight seeing opportunities, complete with glossy colour image pages.
In Defence of System # 891010003
A short SOS message by a system that had a void presence if not a large one. Voidcraft were sent to the world and arrived in good time. But too late. There was nothing left of the system, no planets, no stars, just debris.
To this day no one knows what happened. This book tells the story of the time between the initial call and the voidcraft Defender turning up- including interviews from the responders. It is one of the largest unsolved mysteries of the void.
Open Spaces: The architecture of System #392
Description: This is predominantly a photobook and shows strange buildings mostly made of smooth black stone. Curves and soft edges are predominant and most interestingly there is a lack of windows or doors.
The book explains that the rock muffles psychic senses allowing the residents to rest without overstimulation from the world outside. Their sense of personal space and private property is very different than many people and so buildings are shared- in a culture where everyone can phase through solid material locks are useless but even so crime is practically non-existant.
The photos are stunning- they are mostly just of the buildings and surroundings. When there are people in them they are all wearing masks
Ten Moments of... Terrene (Photobook, #27462947582)
Description: A photobook of #27462947582, planet name 'Terrene', known to more veteran Voidtreckers as the world with the Kingdom of Biq - the aborted mission. A void inactive world, it has (or had) a large ocean, frozen tundra and desert. Kingdom of Biq is shown as it once was, the largest kingdom on the planet.
OOC Post - Mission log
The Chinese Photobook (Photobook, historical)
Description: A book on a modern-world China from the 1900s to the present. This book, basically.
