Character Shenanigans!

Sometimes things happen that may have consequences further down the line. Sometimes characters decide to do things that might have immidiate reprecussion. As mods we want to have our fingers on the pulse of the game as it were, but we are also aware that we won't be able to read every single thing!

So that's where this post comes in. If your character has done something 'noticable' that you think we might need to know about, throw us a link here. Some might require a response, some will just be noted.

Example: "Over *here* my character is trying to smash the windows of the engine!"

Sometimes you might have an idea in mind that you believe will have consequences and be in the midst of writing the thread, however you want to know what those consequences will be for threads going forward. Or you might still be in the planning stages and would like to know how things might pan out. That's also what this post is for!

Example: "At the end of this event my character is planning to not rejoin the train and instead ride off into the sunset! What happens?"

Post-Event

Once everyone gets back on the train, instead of going to bed Nita makes her way to Stores with a pillow, blanket, and book.

But before starting her reading, she says this to the train:

And that was what they did, wasn't it? They kept going back, and when they couldn't get what they wanted, they turned on you.

[It may not be the full truth, but it feels uncomfortable/disturbing enough that it probably IS part of it.]

Well, I'm here to say that it shouldn't have happened. You didn't deserve to lose your home, you didn't deserve to lose your Voidtreckers... your friends.

I'm not going to say whether we should try and save them; it says a lot, for a lot of reasons, that you're still here and they're not. But I want to help stop those shadows, if we can, so no one else has to go through the same thing.

Her shoulders slump. It's okay to feel guilty, about what happened to them. To grieve them, to feel... whatever it is you're feeling. One thing I know I can say is that missing people is always complex, and you don't have to feel just one way about it.

But I want to help you. I want to help you feel happy, whatever that takes. And, come whatever else, we've saved worlds together already, and that means a lot.

Backdated Book Shenanigans

So one of the things Webmind was first introduced to after his 'soul dawn' in canon is Project Gutenberg.

One of the things he's been doing since SXT-2 installed the printer is making copies of all those books he consumed - though if some changes have to be made for 4th-walling-prevention purposes, that's fine!

(Once Dairine's computer is all installed and such, he'll also be downloading the books directly to that. Classics for everyone!)

Glorfindel has taken to, at about 3 or 4am, roughly, going and sitting by the wall to the Engine room and sung something Elvish. Usually songs about seeing loved ones again, even though they've died.

Only one song, each time, and not every night. But he started doing it the night after they left their Island Vacation.

Two, what would happen if Alexis did create an explosive and set it off at the engine wall to try and crack it open?

Yes if she has the knowledge she can make home grown explosives from cleaning supplies, assume a basic level of cleaning chemicals as they get replenished on platforms rather than stored in bulk.

The wall 'reflects' damage. So basically the explosion would bounce back exploding on her and anyone helping her.

As of this conversation, Webmind wants to know if he can upload videos to the Network, in addition to the programming he's done to allow for permatext/textchat.

Will he have any success at this point, or will it also take some months to achieve?

Sadly he won't be able to do so at the moment, or for a while. It will be quite difficult.

Lea is hosting a little betting pool/contest to see if people can guess the name of the next month. It's mostly just for fun, so the prizes for picking the 'winning' are just vouchers that can be exchanged for a small favor or cheap shop item from someone who bet on one of the 'losing' words. If none of the words being bet on turns out to be the 'winner' no one wins or loses anything.

There's a whiteboard in the standard car now with a single black dry-erase marker. It probably? Wasn't? There? Before? But it seems like it's always been there.

Also Ronan keeps leaving things in Medical which similarly weren't there before and seem like they've always been there. Among them: odd tins of salve labeled things like "for your hands" or "for your burns" and a mysterious bottle that's simply labeled "Ronan."

Many characters have informed Nike the SCA devices can protect her from negative emotions and other spirits from trying to possess her, she is now interested to find out the number of negative emotions she can absorb since she can't use the rain song to purify the emotions and her own body. What will happen once she experiments? What is her limit and what will be the side-effects before and after going over?

Sorry about the delay here.

So on the train she won't be in danger of possession (unless any characters try and possess her). She will absorb any negative emotions of those on the train. It will work very much the same it does in her canon- as to limits and side effects etc - what usually happens if Nike (or someone like her) absorbs too many negative emotion?

The walls of the train itself will protect her from the worst of the void but without her SCA she will feel more uneasy, sense the chaos a bit more.

Ao far Clef has set the stone he uses in the Library to Unmake itself when the train pops him out to bed. But since he pretty much only ever is out of the Library when the train does that, the rare time Nita or Zelda get him to leave (has happened once so far), or missions, he has decided he is tired of the extra expenditure of energy and effort.

So rather than remaking it, he is leaving a large natural looking stone in the library, positioned in such a way not to block any shelves currently in use, nor the exits. Also as far from the ICP as he can manage given those two prior conditions. It has a light dusting of non-toxic, non-inimical moss. It is magic, it isn't even an allergen. It is simply soft and aesthetic.

The stone itself is tall enough that he is eye level with the taller passengers when he sits on the top, which is mostly a level mesa except for a small upward protrusion that makes a perfect chair for someone as small as he is, so that his feet touch the mesa.

Basically he made a huge stone, then made it into a comfy (ish? It is still stone) seat for studying. The mesa is wide enough that his staff and a small pile or two of books can be stacked without falling.

Ken is attempting to open a gate to the Digital World with his shiny new D-3! (He is very grateful for the charger. Such thoughtfulness.)

I am assuming this ends with a lot of nothing (womp womp), but would anything else happen if someone tried to open an interdimensional portal using the screen of an ICP?

If he tries to open a protal on the ICP the ICP will flicker for a moment and then go dead. It will reboot after about an hour.

Luggage Car

OH WAIT HI. I'm not sure if this counts as a large change, but Tidus discussed with Fingon about installing a very simple counter in the luggage car somewhere near the entrance from the sleeper cabin, putting in a mini-fridge and just a few utensils from the kitchen, to make a mini kitchen. Is this okay?

There's no sink or anything obviously, it is mainly for making simple sandwiches or toast. There'll be some water bottles refilled for the kettle but otherwise, no actual water supply.

It will be the same as ever, a distant presence that will be there for a moment as XiChen plays and then fade - again like a door is gently shutting.

Robo-theft

Senku will definitely be attempting to steal one of the robots and bringing it onto the train.

What are the consequences of this action?

Bringing a robot back will be simple enough, they do however run off solar energy and their power storage is small, so once the train is in the void it will only run for a day or two before powering down- it can be charged up on worlds with sunlight.

It also doesn't do much, all it's commands are stored on the main stations on Nion, without them the robot mostly spins around in circles and crashes into walls. It beeps all the time and flashes warning lights.

Can she get any impressions off of it, does it respond to the Speech? Or is it like her own SCA, with no response at all, no sense of any awareness in it?

... Can she tell if the Voidcraft it once tethered to is destroyed beyond repair?

['Anti-memetic' is likely not the right word, but without further context all it can do is make an educated guess. And the opposite of an idea that catches on - one that is crushed - is...]

/Either it was deliberate action on her voidcraft's part, or it was a coincidence, as Halo puts it, that they were able to hide in the voidstorm - which would mean only you knew of the capabilities of these shadows. In that memory, you took initiative, where no one else could identify the intruders, the destroyers.

What I wish to know is, how did you know?/

ICP damage

Can an ICP be damaged, particularly if it was attacked with a water spell and the intent was to break it? Or are they waterproof?

Yes they can be damaged! It will be out of commission until the next platform where it will be fixed!

We have learned - slightly - more about the nature of tethers, but is it possible for someone to be tethered to two voidcraft, or a voidcraft and a location? Or for the connection to be subverted, like a changing of passcodes, or a copied key.

There was also discussion of multiverses, which upon reflection on my own experiences in the Labyrinth, leaves me with this to consider: could your previous Voidtreckers have been 'shunted' to another version of you?

And... I have come to understand, now, just how far out of my home multiversal-sheath we really are. That said, if the Powers were able to make it out here... you are entitled to compensation regarding your past sufferings under entropy, and I would do my best to ensure They would cooperate in providing aid and restitution./
